While writing this post I’m still in Mandelieu France at Balboa on the Promenade, one of my favourite Balboa events in Europe. Reason enough to feature another wonderful Balboa tune in the series: Jesse.
Harry James grew up in a family of circus performers and started performing at the age of four! He worked as a cortortionist, but soon after he turned to music. First James was playing the snare drum in the circus band before taking trumpet lessons from his father from the age of six.
When James was 14 he won a music contest and decided to become a professional musician as trumpeter. The rest is history. Harry James became one of the most successful bandleaders of the swing era, keeping on leading his band for more than 40 years!
